When using the Turismo de Portugal logo is a “Red Flag”

If you see only a flashy logo but no registration details, take it as a warning sign.

⚠️ Travelers, beware of the “Turismo de Portugal” logo on tour operators’ marketing

Many tour and activity companies in Portugal proudly show the Turismo de Portugal logo on their websites, flyers, or business cards. At first glance, it looks like an official “stamp of approval.” But here’s the truth:

✅ What’s correct
Every licensed tour operator or activity provider in Portugal must have an RNAAT registration number (National Register of Tourist Animation Agents).
That number must appear on their website, contracts, and advertising.

❌ What’s not correct
Being RNAAT registered does not give permission to use the Turismo de Portugal logo.
The official logo is a protected institutional mark. Companies can only use it if:
They are part of an official program (e.g. Clean & Safe seal, Tourism of Nature recognition).

Or they have explicit, written authorisation.

Most small companies simply don’t know this.

They slap the logo on their materials as if it were a badge of credibility — but it’s actually unauthorised use and against the rules.

Why it matters to you as a traveler

If a company doesn’t even follow basic branding and legal obligations, you should ask yourself:

Do they follow safety rules?
Do they have the right insurance?

Do they respect consumer protection laws?

The logo misuse is often the first visible sign that something isn’t being done properly.

👀
What you should look for

Always check for the RNAAT number on the operator’s website or materials (it looks like: RNAAT n.º XXXX/YYYY).

Verify it in the official Turismo de Portugal registry.

Don’t be misled by a logo.
A genuine operator proves their legitimacy with their registration number, not with a copied badge.
👉
When booking tours in Portugal, trust companies that are transparent with their RNAAT number.
If you see only a flashy logo but no registration details, take it as a warning sign.
